CLINTON PORTIS: THE REAL FUCKING WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.

Based off of the Rerun Dance last year and Flair's belt I would like to nominate Clinton Portis for Coolest Bad-Ass RB Alive.

-Butch Rosser

"Jake was like 'Just protect the ball, let's move the ball and we can run out the clock," said Portis who finished 10 yards short of his career high, set in the final game of 2002.

"Rod was like 'Just score.' And I did. I need to stop taking Jake's advice and listen to Rod more often."

-Clinton Portis

That made my weekend. Not so much with the Seahawks and their inability to compete whatsoever on the road. I had to turn it off in the fourth. How they could leave that guy THAT wide open is beyond me.

As for Monday night, I thought the Browns could do it, but no. Turnovers kill, and it showed.

Next week we have to go to St. Louis and take on the Rams. It'll probably turn into a arcade version of Madden (I lost 50-45 to them) and I don't expect to see anything changing next week.

But there is hope! The wild-card is totally realistic and if Dallas continues to tank, we could back in again. It would suck, but been there, done that.

I went 3-0 in Madden today. Wasted the Cards and the 49ers and even defeated the Packers at Lambeau, which is totally shocking. To me, anyway.

Up next is the Bucs at Tampa and that will be fun. IF (and that's a big if) I can get past them, it'll be the Giants at home or the Rams on the road. I think you can see where I would like to play.

Until next time, enjoy these rumors (there are some good ones in there) and leave some comments. Peace.

-Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier, a lifelong Southerner, flatly denied rumors he is interested in the vacancy at the University of Nebraska, saying, “(Washington) is probably as far north as I will ever live.”

-Colts PK Mike Vanderjagt, who has not missed a FG attempt all season, is confident that he will break Gary Anderson’s record of 40 consecutive field goals made.

-A source close to the Browns says QB Tim Couch’s demeanor is that of someone who wants out of Cleveland in the worst way. We hear Couch seemed unprepared when he replaced a struggling Kelly Holcomb in Cleveland’s 34-7 loss to Seattle in Week 13.

-Credit for the development of Redskins QB Tim Hasselbeck is due to head coach Steve Spurrier and QB coach Noah Brindise, who have prepared Hasselbeck extremely well for a player who has been with the team about a month.

-No matter what the coaching situation is, Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi likely isn’t going anywhere. There had been reports that he would retire, but Accorsi reportedly feels personally responsible for the team’s fall this season.

-Sources close to the Giants indicate that if and when head coach Jim Fassel is fired, the team will not hire a replacement who doesn’t have some previous NFL experience.

-There is little doubt that the Giants will add a quarterback, either through free agency or the draft, next season to groom behind Kerry Collins.

-Eagles OL coach Juan Castillo has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the vacant Texas-El Paso job, and the coach is reportedly willing to listen to an offer. Buccaneers TE coach Art Valero is another possibility.

-Sources close to the Cowboys tell us that CB-KR Derek Ross’ release had little, if anything, to do with his two Thanksgiving Day fumbles. His repeated behavior problems and issues with authority made him a bad match with Bill Parcells.

-TE Jim Kleinsasser told Insider that Vikings head coach Mike Tice spent last week reassuring his squad it was a good team. Later in the week, Tice reminded the club it wouldn’t be a great team unless it stopped making the, in Kleinsasser’s words, “stupid mistakes and penalties” it had made during the losing streak. Kleinsasser described the team as “shell-shocked” and lacking some confidence. “We haven’t lost our swagger, but we’ve had to take a step back.”

-The Vikings chose to move rookie DL Kevin Williams to nose tackle for several reasons. The greatest factor was that the play of Fred Robbins has fallen off. Robbins impressed the coaching staff the first month of the season but had been pushed around recently. Williams and DT Chris Hovan give the Vikings two extremely active interior linemen who get off the line quickly and should disrupt plays in the backfield. Williams had been fine at left defensive end, but he played inside at Oklahoma State.

-The Lions couldn’t be more pleased with the mutual burying of the hatchet with former star Barry Sanders. Sanders broke his post-retirement silence with a press conference at Ford Field last week. Though the motivation for the fence-mending session was the chance to promote his new book, “Now You See Him … ,” Detroit management considers it a coup to be on the same page with their soon-to-be Hall of Fame back.

-The way we hear it, the Saints may hand the starting MLB job to Cie Grant next season because the coaching staff loves his potential.

-We’re told the Panthers won’t activate WR Kevin Dyson because head coach John Fox demands that the No. 4 receiver on the team also be a big special-teams contributor, an area in which Dyson doesn’t excel.

(This is especially freaky as Dyson was placed on IR in my franchise. And did you know Madden has career ending injuries? Some rookie wide receiver from Buffalo has a hip fracture and is d-o-n-e done.).

-The way we hear it, Buccaneers WR Joe Jurevicius, who was placed on injured reserve last week with a sore knee, tried to come back too soon from the torn medial collateral ligament that cost him the first half of the season because he didn’t believe the Bucs could be successful without him.

-Sources say the Bucs aren’t concerned about any distractions despite talk swirling that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin could be a candidate for the head-coaching job at Nebraska, because the Tampa Bay vets know that any move won’t come until after the season.

-Despite the lack of depth in the backfield, the Falcons don’t plan on using RB Woodrow Dantzler much with QB Michael Vick back in the lineup because head coach Dan Reeves doesn’t believe Dantzler is comfortable with Vick’s package of plays.

-Falcons DT Ellis Johnson has started to waffle again on whether or not he is going to retire.

-Broncos DE Trevor Pryce ignored the verbal sparring that was going on between Denver and Kansas City last week and said that, “hands down,” the Chiefs had the best offensive line in the league. When asked whether he would vote for the entire line when it came time for the Pro Bowl, he added, “If I can remember their names, yes, I will.”

-The concern over RB Clinton Portis’ tendency to pull himself out of games on occasion because of nagging injuries or fatigue has waned significantly the past few weeks in Denver.

-Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil on the leader of his club’s dominant offensive line: “The offensive line is controlled by Casey Wiegmann. You know the old cliché — he's a coach on the field? He knows what's going on. He controls all the pass coverages, protections and how we're going to pick up the blitz and all of that.”

-Chiefs LB Scott Fujita has shown marked improvement in his second year, and a lot of his progress stems from his refinement in terms of body control to shield both blockers and receivers.

-WR Reche Caldwell’s days in San Diego’s starting lineup could be numbered. Recently rookie Kassim Osgood has taken some playing time away from him. Osgood has more size and is a better blocker.

-After seemingly struggling forever to find a suitable replacement for departed FB James Hodgins, we hear the Rams have really taken a liking to second-year pro Joey Goodspeed, who had delivered at least one key block in every game in which he had started heading into Week 14.

-With the Rams having precious little money under the cap (“about 35 cents,” according to head coach Mike Martz), look for them to leave at least one spot open on either their active roster or practice squad the rest of the season to ensure that they don’t go over the limit.

-We hear the Seahawks continue to be pleased with the job being turned in by athletic rookie Rashad Moore in place of the injured Norman Hand. Moore figures to have a good shot at retaining his starting DRT role.

-We hear Seahawks CB Ken Lucas was pretty ticked off when he was removed from the starting lineup for a few games in favor of Shawn Springs. We also hear that Springs was equally miffed after losing the starting job back to Lucas.

-Word is the 49ers’ players remain fully behind head coach Dennis Erickson, who made quite a positive impression on his troops when he tried to pin the Niners’ ugly Week 13 loss in Baltimore on his own failings.

-The Cardinals’ pathetic Week 13 loss to the Bears could have been the final nail in the coffin for head coach Dave McGinnis. Our sources in the Valley of the Sun believe the Cardinals would prefer to replace McGinnis with a bigger disciplinarian, as well as somebody who is offensive-oriented. The problem could be that there aren’t too many candidates who appear to fill that double bill. It’s also quite likely, we’re told, that McGinnis’ replacement must be willing to come cheaply.

-Bills RB Travis Henry has completely won the respect of his teammates by playing recently with a cracked fibula. We hear Henry has done no complaining about the injury, and his teammates have noticed his determination and guts. Word is also that Henry has actually struck up a bit of a friendship with perceived rival Willis McGahee.

-Colts officials worry that CB Walt Harris’ knee tendinitis, which has forced him to miss most practices since training camp, has started to affect his performance on game days.

-A personnel source had this to say about the Jaguars’ offseason moves: “You couldn’t understand what their plan of attack was. On one hand, they draft (QB Byron) Leftwich. On the other hand, they go sign a 32-year-old defensive end and give him $6 million. … I think they’re so concerned about their fan base that they’re trying to win now and win later.”

-Bengals C Rich Braham and FS Mark Roman are two players who don’t get enough enough credit, according to a source close to the team. Braham has helped stabilize the offensive line, and Roman has been a good fit in Leslie Frazier’s defense.

-How the Steelers deal with the situation at left outside linebacker bears watching, according to a source close to the team. Veteran Jason Gildon is a candidate to be cut. Backup Clark Haggans is an unrestricted free agent. And rookie Alonzo Jackson, a converted defensive end, hasn’t gotten much playing time.

-The Ravens are very pleased with kickoff specialist Wade Richey, who special-teams coordinator Gary Zauner says is popular with Baltimore’s defensive coaches because of his ability to pin teams deep.

-Although former 49ers PK Jeff Chandler lives in Jacksonville and would love another opportunity, we hear that Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio will keep PK Seth Marler, who has made only 16-of-26 field-goal attempts.

-Both QB Mark Brunell and head coach Jack Del Rio have publicly declared what was already speculated — Brunell’s tenure with the Jaguars will end after the season.

-We hear that Titans officials will start limiting DE Kevin Carter’s work in practice not only due to his age, 30, but also because he gets 60 snaps a game, a lot for a player on a defensive line that constantly rotates players.
