"OH SHIT, I CAME UP ON LOOT!" OR... WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HEAVEN IS JUST 20 MINUTES AWAY

Did I say tomorrow? I meant NEXT WEEK. Yeah. Take that.

(That weak attempt at bravado is for all the Dubya fans in the house (all four of you who are too old to get off the post 9/11 "we love Bush!" bandwagon. Be careful of the strip searches on the way down!)

Ever since I discovered that The Wherehouse sells used CD's and DVD's, I've tried to make my way over there from time to time to see what lost treasures I could find.

For the most part, I've been moderatly sucessful. Yeah, there are days when all I have is tons of Ja Rule and crappy rap comps to sift through, but you do get some dimes here and there.

My list so far:

Ultramagnetic MC's - The Four Horseman (good album)

Rapppaz 'N Da Hood (a US/UK 4 disc comp. The only good thing so far is the Special Ed joint and how far England has come from the days of Daddy Freddy and Da Hoodzmen to Dizee Rascal and The Streets.)

Stetsasonic - Blood, Sweat & No Tears (excellent album. I wonder why Questlove hasn't brought back Daddy-O and the gang, unless he knows his crew would get blown off the fuckin' stage.)

Ultramagnetic MC's - The B-Side Companion (damn I can't believe I missed Kool Keith last month. EARTH PEOPLE I WAS BORN ON JUPITER.)

Screwball - Y2K (mad underrated album.)

DJ Muggs - Soul Assassins II (if you're looking for a slept-on producer, Muggs is your boy.)

Rasco - Escape From Alcatraz (the first "meh" purchase. I became a fan of his when I heard "What It's All About" on a Beat Junkies comp I bought a while ago, but goddamn if the beats were not up to par on this one.)

The Alkaholics - 21 & Over (LIKS BABY LIKS)

Prince Paul - Politics Of The Business (I haven't really sat through this one yet. Not enough there to grab me, plus Paul spent most of the liner notes bitching about how hip-hop has passed him by, so I don't have high hopes for this one.)

Big Pun - Capital Punishment (We Latinos lost a major player in music when he passed. This guy was blessed by God. No question.)

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP (this replaces the one my "friend" borrowed and never brought back.)

Kool Moe Dee - Knowledge Is King (another underappreciated MC.)

Easy Mo Bee - Now Or Never: Odyssey 2000 (even after Ready To Die, he was still hot.)

Deltron 3030 - S/T (DEL~! DAN THE AUTOMATOR~!)

Larry Larr - Da Wizzard Of Odds (I remembered him from a promo cassette many, many moons ago.)

Tracey Lee - The Theme (great party joint.)

Butter - Original Movie Soundtrack (It had The Beatnuts - Off The Books, but it was a different beat. :( On the plus side it did have a couple of Three Six Mafia joints.)

New Jersey Drive Vol. 2 (great 8 song E.P. complete with a O.C/Organized Konfusion collabo and NOBODY BEATS THE BIZ~~~~~~~~~.)

Ice-T - O.G.: Original Gangster (back when he was still scarin' white folk. See "Straight Up Ni99a" for details.)

D.I.T.C. - Live At Tramps NYC: In The Memory Of Big L - Vol.2 (this one has Diamond D, Show & AG and Lord Finesse)

So, not a bad list right? I was still looking for that motherlode when some desperate bastard would sell his collection and I would be set.

Enter today.

I made it through I-5/the Narrows Bridge to get home and get my check so I could deposit it right away to cover anything outstanding. Afterwards, I thought "Hey, I'll run by the Wherehouse right quick. It couldn't hurt."

I get there and start diggin.' I find a copy of BDP's Edutainemnt. Score.

Then I found Live & Hardcore Worldwide Vol. 1. Another score.

Then Gangstarr's Daily Operation.

Then...

King Tee's Act A Fool. I've read about this album that no one talks about as one of the greats, yet it fetches insane amounts on eBay.

It was right there for 7.99.

Then the floodgates opened.

N.W.A's 100 Miles And Runnin' EP. M.C. Shan's Down By Law EP (with all his 12" singles on Cold Chillin' that made him who he is.) Eric B. & Rakim's Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em. Marley Marl's In Control Vol. 1.

The last purchase?

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back aka The Greatest Rap Album Of All Time. (You can argue with me about this, but you better be ready to throw down. I love PE more than I love my mom OR my life. You have been warned.)

I stuck to these and no more (EDIT: I should have added I eventually put back the Gangstarr and the BDP albums), but I could have blown so much more dough. EPMD's Strictly Business, PE's Fear Of A Black Planet and Yo! Bum Rush The Show, X-Clan's To The East... shit, I can't remember it all. I think it's because I had to block it out of my mind and move on before I turned into a fucking maniac.

It's probably the greatest haul I've ever had at a music store in my life.

But oh man. I cannot imagine the poor soul who had to sell these CD's. If it ever comes down to selling my collection, I better be on the street. And when I do sell them, I'm going off on a bender that would make Nicolas Cage's character from Leaving Las Vegas say "Whoa." Then I will die.

I hope and pray that the ones I left behind will still be there. Please God, make it so. I might get lucky on some, but I bet there's someone in this area who loves hip-hop more than I do and snatch 'em all up. It would be my luck.

I would also like to thank the people at Express Personnel who got me this great temp job that affords me to buy back my childhood one CD at a time (and keep up on those damn student loans!)

The job is going great so far. There's a chick who works there that I went to high school with that I haven't seen since high school, but I haven't had time to talk to her yet. She has a boyfriend, so no "Dude you should HIT THAT SHIT!" posts, please.

I also found out that the CAM's are basically sales reps who go out and get these fat contracts, yet they feel doing a closeout on a task order is "beneath them." (yes, that's a direct quote.)

I wasn't too crazy about hearing that, since it's more dollars wasted by the government, but if they're dumb enough to pay us $17.40 an hour to push some papers ("and think about what THEY make," said one of the temps) so be it. I'll put that money to good use.

Other quick thoughts:

-RAW~~~~: They can't lose with Eugene. How scary is that? This is getting to be "Smackdown in late 2002" hot. Now all they need is their own version of Angle/Benoit v. Mysterio/Edge 2 out of 3 falls for the tag titles to define this run and we'll have something else to debate besides HHH: Menace Or Scheming, Out Of Control Asshole?

They're almost there, if you think about it. All they need is for Orton and Batista to get hot, Edge to stay injury-free and let Benoit do the rest.

-M's``````````: It helps that the local media lapdogs are finally turning on the team (but to be fair to Thiel, he hasn't been too sold on them this year also) but I don't have much faith in Bavasi and the crew to improve things.

If you were interested in how a medium market team could fight their way into the top 10 in profits and popularity, yet piss it all away, check out the U.S.S. Mariner for more details. They will be happy to break it down for you.

-

Come the fuck on you guys. Seriously.

OK, I'll have more tomorrow 'cause I'm about to fall asleep. Tomorrow will include NFL rumorz so Gates can quit stealing my gimmick and being a little bitch. Hey Chris, remember this? "NO! NO! THE CARDINALS HAVE KNOCKED THE VIKINGS OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS!" Alright then.

Peace out, yo.
