THIS POST HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Banner in a souvenir shop near Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto. A critique of cultural imperialism? Or a byproduct of it? You decide.

Well, I was going to post something from Chuck D, but their site is down, so poop on that idea. (Although, if you're interested, "Can't Do Nuttin For Ya Man" is covered by a very "cute" band here.)

I've been trying to think about some grand speech or witty sayings that I could put here, but it would just turn into one long, random, crazy, weird rant, and y'all don't wanna read that.

Instead, I'll talk about something I saw in the mall last weekend.

They have a display there where kids from a local elementary school wrote about what the Americna flag means to them. I never stopped and looked at what the kids wrote, but I can assume it's the same thing we all thought at that age: The flag stands for freedom. It stands for liberty, it stands for fairness and it stands for equality.

Now I wonder: Will those kids feel the same way when they grow up and find out what it's really like to live here? For the kids who are minorities, what will the flag mean for them when they experience racism? For the girls, what will the flag mean when they find out they're still considered second class citizens? For those who discover they're gay or lesbian, what will the flag mean when they can't even have the same rights as the rest of us?

Something to think about on this day of celebration.

Other quick hitz:

-We got the call on Thursday that our contract was extended to July 30th. I think they got the word that we weren't going to finish very many closeouts by that time, so they gave us another two and a half weeks.

The fucked up part about that? They let go some of their contractors, so for the remainder of the time that we're here, two of us are going to help with various stuff, while the other person will be responsible for the closeout list, which means that person will have 250 closeouts to do by themself.

Nice eh? This is after they wanted to make the people who work in the finance department actual GSA employees (they were contractors) but they only had three spots between four people, so they made them test and they scored the same, so the tiebreaker was whose Social Security was the lowest. The lady with the lowest score had the second longest tenure there and she has a family.

Boy. These government folk sure are nice, aren't they?

It is good that they're splitting us up. Both of the ladies I work with are starting to get on my nerves. One is in her mid 50's and has lived in many places, yet she's not very emotionally stable. The other one is 65 and very nice, but she needs to be reminded how to do everything several times, even when it's simple shit.

It's really frustrating, and this move may be a blessing in disguise, as I think we're all sick of being around each other for eight hours a day.

-My uncle took me to a shooting range on Thursday. I've never been to one and I'm not a big fan of guns (my mom hates 'em and my dad wasn't the hunting type) but I figured, why not? If it ever comes down to it, I'd like to be able to know how to use a gun properly.

So I shot a Colt .22 (kinda like the old school Colt revolvers you see in all those old school Western films)

a Colt King Cobra .38...

and a Colt .45 1911A.

I didn't do too bad, but it's definetly a step up from firing BB guns when I was a kid. They also have a archery range and skeet shooting, so I'll have to try that out.

-TWIW: Triple H's work with Eugene is gold right now. The Lita pregnancy is going to be the "best" shittiest angle we've seen in years (and if Kane survives this, he'll be the Teflon Don of bad wrestling angles.)

That's the good. The bad is JBL with the WWE Championship (I understand for storyline reasons, but STILL!) a lack of credible heels on Smackdown and Trish is out for a couple of months with a broken hand. Bah.

-Bought the new Lloyd Banks album. Pretty good. I also copped Austin's bio and a I Ching book at the discount bookstore in Auburn. The Austin book was good as well. Hopefully the I Ching book will hold my interest.

As always, I have more, but I end up forgetting it. Plus I have stuff to do before the party tonight, so stay safe and don't drive intoxicated! Sleep on the lawn if you have to! It's comfy if you're drunk!

Oh, and if you need some live shit to move the folks at your BBQ, check out the various MP3 blogs out there. If you need some old school shit -- Hiporhop.com.

Peace!
