OW! DEATH!

But I'm not surprised. We lose all the damn time there. And if we've got a chance to win, then we get hosed by a shitty call.

But thanks to the Rams, they've got a shot to win the division outright next week if we beat the Cards and they lose to the Eagles.

- In other news, the job ends next Thursday, and I'll be going out with a bang. Tomorrow, I cover an alumni wrestling match at Redmond, then I have to be up early on Tuesday to travel to Tukwila and write about this soccer complex and their new deal with Manchester United. The last two days will be finishing the schedule and wrapping up any loose ends.

I've been trying to politic for a job there, and I might be made into a copy editor on the sports side since they need a extra body. But it all depends on the budget and when they move into the new buildings in February.

If I get this copy editor job, it will be a blessing. I am sick and tired of asshole parents and coaches calling about how their kids aren't in the paper and how we miss games.

We have a staff of five. The sports ed, two writers, and two part time desk clerks. That's it. The paper used to be two separate papers. But due to monetary reasons, they had to cut a whole bunch of people and combine the papers, so they couldn't cover everything as much as they used to.

Does anybody understand this? No. We get so much crap because we're not at "their game" and "the Seattle Times does a better job!"

Well, they have the budget (until now when they're going to layoff people due to a $12 million loss) so they can afford to be at the games. If the Journal had a freelance budget, then we would be at the games too.

Even when we take news off the wire, we get into it. I had some guy complain about an AP writer's religious bias when we ran an article about Notre Dame, which really pissed me off and I was about to get into a shouting match when my editor stepped in and took the call over.

But now I've got a running joke about how we hate the kids, and that we like to break their little hears, when we know they don't care.

So to you prospective parents, or ones who play sports in high school: shut the fuck up. Work on your kids so they become a happy, productive member of society and not the next MJ or Mia Hamm. Thank you.

Until next time, enjoy these hot hot hot links, and I'll holla.
