MY WINTER OF DISCONTENT

This one's for me. Come back in a few days if you're not interested in this (which I doubt you are.)

OK.

"I thought he caught it, and then I saw it come out. We came up short again."
- Matt Hasselbeck on the last play of the game.

"I really thought at the beginning of the year that we would be deep in the playoffs. It was that kind of atmosphere. This isn't where we wanted to be."
-Mack Strong on his expectations for the year.

The more I think about it, this was the worst season to be a Seahawk fan. Oh sure, '92 sucked when we were 2-14 and '99 blew when we went 8-2, but finished at 9-7 and handed the division as a Christmas present when the Chiefs beat the Raiders, but this year... this was the year.

This was the year where we were gonna run roughshod over the league and get to the NFC Championship game, if not the Super Bowl. Instead, we get set up for a great ride only to fall fast and hard against St. Louis in one of the worst losses I've ever experienced as a fan.

The rest of the season was a struggle to keep up with expectations. We would win games by a close margin or lose games we were supposed to win.

Then the Dallas loss happened and everything just went to shit.

Now, we've got to sit through another offseason. This time though, we've got 16 free agents to think about resigning, plus the open slot in SF where Holmgren got his start.

I don't want to speculate on who stays and who goes just yet. Mainly because I don't want to think about that.

All I know is this: It'll be the hardest off-season we've ever dealt with.

And it won't be pretty.
